Book: The Rules of the Game

A follow up to the book 'The Game' written by Neil Strauss, is a collection of series of daring challenges, 'failsafe' pick-up routines and a few arousing diary entries from the author himself.

To pick out a book at this intensity, for a guy, at a bookstore is rather challenging as it is. But that's not the end of the story. Thirty random challenges -potentially fatally embarrassing- for every day of the month is what you end up with.

'The Rules of the Game' by Neil Strauss
Starting with 'The Game' and now 'The Rules of the Game', Neil has built himself this empire where he is the Master and all others seem to want to aspire to become just like him. To this end, he has set up 'The Stylelife Academy' where he offers complimentary material to the books through its website.

In the meanwhile, if you are having a rough day completing your challenge, you can always flip over to the back of the book to see how 'Master' does what you never thought possible.

I generally try not to be biased. And so far, i've expressed positively of all the books I've read, including 'The Game'. Some more than others. After reading the diaries section of the book, I have developed a mixed feeling about this one. I suppose, as a guy, you would applaud him for his success with women and the desire to help other men to achieve their fantasies too. On the other hand, it reads unsound by any moral standards. It's as if a dark force surrounds this book. Or just maybe I've watched too much Star Wars.

In the 'Style Diaries', as opposed to 'The Game' which follows the conventional story telling, the stories are rather unrelated and random. Most probably intended to inspire those who answer the call for challenges prescribed in the earliest part of the book.

And finally the middle section which is only available on the new editions of the book: 'The routines collection'. They are generally a set of openers which you could execute to kick start a conversation with a group of strangers. To be fair, they are in fact quiet stimulating questions thrown at your audience for their opinion.

If I were to leave one final remark to sum it all up, it would be this: Read the book at your own discretion.

Book: The Game

"The Game" by Neil Strauss is by far one of the most interesting books I've read. A narrative story of the young 'Style', the author, and 'Mystery' along their adventurous journey in becoming 'pick-up artists'. Real or fiction, it's worth a read and honestly I know you'll be laughing your lungs out as you flip through the pages.

For some of you out there, the guy is a hero. And true enough he did start a career in giving talks on how to pick up women and soon enough found himself a noticeable number of followers. I'd say it's a little insensitive towards women but that seem not to have stopped the book from becoming the number one bestseller. A little through the book, you read how he gets to coach Tom Cruise, uses his moves on Britney Spears, and moves in with Courtney Love.

Look Strauss up on YouTube and in one video you see this skinny bald dude with a goatee dating this beautiful blonde lady. I suppose there is no stopping the world's renowned greatest pick-up artist (whatever that means). Now there is no way I can be anymore specific or I'll be spoiling the fun of reading it. So just get yourself a copy. If you are lucky, you can get your hands on one copy in Kinokuniya bookstore in Malaysia. Else, keep looking guys if you desperately want to know how he proclaims he does it. And gals, you too, if you would want to recognize a 'pick-up' artist when you meet one before you become the subject of their full attention.

Book: How To Make Anyone Fall in Love With You

On my very last visit to a bookstore, I impulsively bought a book titled "How to make anyone love you" by Leil Lowndes, an international bestseller author. I really didn't know what to expect. Not that I picked out this book for personal reasons but I couldn't resist to find out what it had to say.

Technically the book is to take you step by step from the moment one meets his/her potential lover until the moment they fall in love. Interestingly enough, at the end of each chapter there is a summary in few paragraphs, totaling up to 85 summaries altogether. This particularly helped to keep track of many good advices the book had to make. The book itself was written in a way to accommodate for both genders looking to find Mr/Miss Right, so everyone can pick a few tips here and there.

Personally, I think this book is very vibrant and interesting to follow. It also had a very realistic view over the subject matter as oppose to what I had thought initially. One very appealing feature of the book is that it talks a lot about compromising and putting it into perspective. So whether you are looking to find a lover or you are already in a relationship, this is a good read for both partners to polish some of the rough edges.

Book: How To Read a Person Like a Book

"O, what men dare do! What men may do! What men daily do, not knowing what they do."

'Much ado about nothing' by Shakespeare

"How to Read a Person Like a Book" by  Gerard Nierenberg

As part of my interest in self improvement books and attempts to better my social skills, this is a review on a book that I'd read a while back. It's called "How to read a person like a book" by Gerard Nierenberg.

This book is written in such simplicity that makes it easy to follow. In essence, it explains how different interrelated facial and body movements can be interpreted for a meaning. Much supported with some self proclaimed social studies. Frankly, I can still remember the book to a fair extend of detail and I don't think it'll be forgotten easily either anytime soon. And that's the point. The book might suggest some really common sense material and might even be in the very basic level which we observe in people every day but we don't pay much attention to. One of the features of the book that I like is that it is accompanied by a series of drawings which depicts the expression od each described gesture for the ease of understanding.

Personally I think it was a terrific book to read and I had lots of fun reading on some of the descriptions I was more familiar with. So if you wanna catch someone on a deliberate lie or simply tell what someone means to say by their hand movements, this is definitely a book for you.

"Watch out for the man whose stomach doesn't move when he laughs."
Cantonese proverb

P.S- Both quotes at the top and bottom were extracted from the book which i found very interesting. Every chapter started with one of them.

Cheers.
