Travel: Bali, Indonesia

This might be about a year ago, but there are certain things I'll never forget about being in Bali. Food is certainly on top of the list. Having only been there for three days and two nights, our trip could not possibly have covered all the good food places around Kuta.

This might not be a local food place but I'd like to revisit TJ's Mexican Bar & Restaurant next when I'm in Bali again. That's right: Good food, terrific atmosphere, and a couple of chilled Bintangs in that kind of heat can go a long way in healing a worry or two.

Our hotel, Maxi, was situated in Jalan Legian area, a perfect place right opposite two of most visited clubs around Kuta: Apache and Paddy's Pub. The first thing that caught my attention on Kuta's hotel map was the sight of the first bombing area right next to the hotel. Not only it wasn't a worrisome matter but it had become a location for tourists to visit. The city planners for some reason had decided to even use a different tiling to show the range of the explosion. And there I was thinking this should have been something they would have wanted to avoid mentioning. Bali definitely shared a totally different point of view on the subject.

The moment you walk into the streets for some shopping, there are two things you won't miss noticing: masses of motorbikes cruising around and carved wooden male 'copulation' organs. Seemingly there are no need for bike licences in the entire island as opposed to any other place in the world. Inevitably most of the bike riders were all tourists. I must say it was cute seeing caucasian men and women riding on their little motorbike with a small helmet around Jalan Legian.

Aside to all the shopping and sightseeing, I did also manage to do a bit of scuba diving which was an amazing experience. One of the guys on the boat with us started bleeding from his nose as soon as he got into the water; so having everyone attending him, I was left all alone down there to enjoy and explore on my own terms. No scuba diving licence needed.

Onto the sea
Now if you are a night clubber kind of person, you should seriously consider taking a few of those tall rainbow colored drinks in Apache (I've already forgotten what it was called). Usually rice wine has an acquired taste but this was a mix of a bunch heavenly ingredients you could barely say no to.

I'm hoping I can return to Bali very soon again and get a taste of its soothing drinks and reunite with its incredible food. This time I won't even think twice to take a joy ride on a motorbike.
